Taking a few minutes out of the day to post a bit about progress of research. I am “calling out” to every local county historical society in Arkansas to request materials from all of the good folks who volunteer and/or work at these organizations. It is quite amazing what a scholar can find right down at their local county historical society. I tell my students in my Historical Methods course, who want assistance with choosing a topic, to start in their family, home town, or county. There are many local people who would love to help with research and they appreciate that students care about their history. To me, they are the backbone of the larger state organizations. Most of them volunteer their time to save and preserve our state history. I have had a pleasant experience every time I “call out” these great folks!
