In 1889, the Arkansas Legislature passed a few game laws. One of them provided the foundation for many game laws that followed. They declared that Arkansas owned the game and fish, except the fish in private ponds. On that premise, Arkansas lawmakers have made the remaining Arkansas wildlife laws. Secondly, they passed a law, aimed at market hunting, that said no person could ship game and fish out of Arkansas. This was an excellent law. The bad thing about it was, within the year, Mississippi County had exempted itself from the law. That made the law worthless because anyone, anywhere in Arkansas could first ship their game and fish to Mississippi County and then out of the state from there. #arkansaslaw #arkansas #arkansaswildlife #arkansasoutdoors #arkansasgameandfish #arkansasvintage #vintagewildlife #hunting #fishing #vintagehunting
